Mid-level Python engineering jobs

Mid-level Python (2-5 years) is the deepest segment of the Python hiring pool. Plenty of options across backend, data, and ML — but most never reach LinkedIn's top page.

About these roles

Mid-level is where most Python hiring volume actually lands — 2-5 years of experience, comfortable owning a service end-to-end, but not yet expected to set technical direction across a team. The roles split roughly into three lanes: backend product engineering (FastAPI/Django + Postgres + some async + cloud basics), data engineering (Airflow/Dagster + dbt + warehouse SQL), and ML-adjacent platform work (model serving, feature pipelines, evals). Comp at this tier runs $130-180k US base, £65-95k London, €70-100k Berlin/Amsterdam, with another 10-25% in equity at scale-ups. Most processes are 4-5 rounds: recruiter screen, take-home or live coding, system design (yes, even at mid-level now), team match, leadership chat. Visa sponsorship is realistic at this band, especially for fintech and AI-native companies.
